Notes for Charles Valentine Grisso
On both of his marriage applications, Charles listed his occupation as "harness maker", a trade he learned from his father. As the demand for harnesses decreased, however, his leather working shop was converted to mostly shoe repair, beltmaking and other cobblery. He served as a sheriff's deputy for Kosciusko Co. for a period of time, but in quiet rural Sydney this was a part time occupation. By the time my mother was in high school, he was in his late sixties, and working as the janitor at Sydney High.

Wabash Co. Death Certificate Bk 18809, p. 95, line 842, lists Charles Valentine Grisso, harness maker, b. 14 Feb 1884 in Indiana, father Adam, mother Julia Ann Huffman; d. 15 July 1966, age 82, in Pleasant View Nursing Home.

The Social Security death index lists Charles Grisso, b. 14 Feb 1884, d. July 1966, SSN 316-34-3772 issued in Indiana, last residence Wabash, IN.

1920 census of Kosciusko Co., IN, Jackson twp, E.D. 86, p. 8B, family 18: Charles V. Grisso, 35, auto mechanic; wife Nellie H., 31; son Bob E., 3 5/12; dau Eveline E., 4/12. (Enumerated Jan 20. The enumerator probably misheard "Alton" as "Elton" for Bob's middle name.)
Notes for Jeanette Blanche ("Jennie") Hale
Jennie and Charles were divorced in 1915. Charlene has a copy of their divorce decree. It states that Charles was the one who sued for divorce, and that the court found in his favor, and granted him custody of 8-year old Wahneta. He, in turn, gave custody to his parents, Adam and Julia, a few months later.

Their grandson Charles Fetheroff says that Jennie moved to Ohio very soon after the divorce. She took work as a secretary, until remarrying four years later.
