Notes for Frances Fouss
Lester Binnie's "The German Baptist Arnolds" gives the name of Christian C. Arnold's wife as Frances Truss. The typed index to Wabash Co. marriage records gives it as Francis Fouss. (I didn't look at the original.) The marriage license application for their daughter Carrie gives her mother's maiden name as Frances Truss (this may be Lester Binnie's source.) I have not seen the name Truss in any other records associated with Brethren families, but Fouts/Foutz/Pfouts/ Pfoutz was a common Brethren name (e.g., there are 68 entries for it in the Montgomery Co., OH, 1803-1851 marriage records, and 17 entries for it in Binnie's Wabash & Kosciusko Co. cemetery records). So it is likely that Truss is a misreading of Fouss, which is a variant of Fouts.
