| His obituary in the Morehead News says "Norman Skaggs, 85, of South Charleston, Ohio, died Tues., March 17 at home. He was born Nov 17, 1906, the son of Joseph and Ida Pennington Scaggs. His first wife, Stella Petitt Scaggs, died in 1932. His second, Effie Owens Scaggs, died in 1970. Surviving are one son, Robert Scaggs Sr. of South Charleston, Oh., one daughter, Wilma McMullen of Loveland, Ohio, one brother, Murvel Scaggs of Morehead, two sisters, Nola Reynolds of Wilmington, Oh., and Auda Carter of Springfield, Oh. One sister, Thelma Harr, preceded him in death." |

Stella died of typhoid fever at age 19. Jesse Petitt bible1 has entry: "Stella Petitt B. Dec 11, 1912 Married Norman Skaggs Nov. 28, 1931 Stella Died Aug. 12, 1932"
The index to Kentucky Vital Statistics in Frankfort lists birth of Stella Petitt on 12-31-12 in Breathitt Co., mother's maiden name Emma Clark. She was really born in Rowan Co.; for some reason all births in Rowan Co. in the period 1912-1917 are indexed as Breathitt Co. even when the birth certificate says Rowan Co. |
