Phil McBrayer's Trent notes, based on data provided by Vada Skaggs Trent, gives William's date of birth as 1/9/1897, which agrees with his Social Security record and his obituary, but in the 1900 census he is listed as as age 4, b. 11/96. (There are so many errors like this in the 1900 census for Rowan Co. that I think the enumerator was lazy and didn't interview many of the families, but rather entered them from his own knowledge and guessed at ages.)
