| Notes for George Washington & Julia Ann (Family) |
Rowan Co. marriage records on LDS microfilm #216,839 (an annual report to the state auditor) list the marriage on 22 Apr 1856 of George W. Alfry, 26, b. Fleming Co. to Julia A. Ramey, 15, b. Morgan Co. The same marriage was also reported (with the same date) in Morgan Co. marriage book #1, as George W Alfrey, 27, born Fleming Co., Ky, to Julian Ramey, 16, born Morgan Co., by William S Hunt. Since Rowan County wasn't really formed until July of 1856, the Morgan Co. location is more accurate, although it was probably in the part of Morgan Co. that became Rowan.
Curiously, in the 1860 census Julian is listed with her father, and under her maiden name. There is also no George or Washington Alfrey listed in that census for Rowan or Morgan County. But he apparently did not die or leave her, because Anderson Alfrey born ca 1872 listed his parents as "Wash" and Julia Alfrey on his marriage record. Perhaps George & Julia moved to Fleming County, and she was accidently enumerated with her parents while visiting them. |
