| Notes for Lemuel Washington ("Wash") Johnson |
| According to Omer Trent, a cousin to "Wash's" daughter-in-law, Martha Conn Johnson, and other relatives by marriage, the two oldest sons of Wash put a contract out on him, so to speak and had him killed. Apparently the elder Johnson was a local moneylender and the two oldest boys got greedy. They sent a couple of people known to Wash to have dinner with him and after they had eaten and they went outside they killed him and made it look like a robbery. I have the names down in another location. This must have been common knowledge as it is reported that Johnnie Johnson had to be physically restrained from killing his brothers, George and Marion, when he discovered that they had been involved in the death of their father. Johnnie was the husband of Martha Conn. Johnnie's sister Pearl married Martha's brother Robert and another sister, Tennasee Johnson married Mitchell Black, a brother to Martha's sister Lula's husband Pressie Black. |
