Notes for Truby Lee Petitt
Truby used to be known as a good hymn singer. He was frequently asked to sing solos in church.

Truby was a cabinet maker and shopkeeper. After retirement, during the 1960's he and Florence lived in Bradenton, Florida, in the winters and in Franklin, North Carolina during the rest of the year. They moved back to Morehead around 1971.

The bible of Jesse & Emma Petitt1 has entry "Truby Lee Petitt borned Oct 27, 1903 Married Florance Hall July 25, 1923, died April 16, 1973"

His death certificate states that he died Apr 16, 1973, age 69, in Morehead, Rowan Co.; married, maiden name of surviving spouse Florence Hall, that he was b. 10-27-1903, father Jessie Petitt, mother's maiden name Emma Clark, informant Mrs. Truby Petitt, residence 717 W. Sun St., Morehead, cause of death "myocardial infraction." (He had a heart attack while out working in his vegetable garden.)

His obituary in the Morehead News says, Truby Petitt, 69, of Morehead, was dead on arrival at St. Claire Medical Center following an apparent heart attack. A native of Elliott Co., he was born 27 Oct 1903, and had resided in Elliott and Rowan Counties all of his lifetime. He was a member of the Church of God and was the son of Mrs. Emma Clark Petitt of Morehead and the late Jessie Petitt. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife Florence Petitt, two sons Medford Petitt of Santa Fe, N.M., and Ted D. Petitt of Wabash, Ind., two brothers, Sanford Petitt of Rockford, Ill., and Harrison Petitt of Wabash, Ind., seven sisters, Mrs. Vesta Hall and Mrs. Nellie Baldridge of Clearfield, Mrs. Martha McBrayer and Mrs. Lila Chadwell of Morehead, Mrs. Viola McBrayer of Elliottville, Mrs. Isa Smith of Warsaw, Ind., and Mrs. Geneva Bays of Goshen, Ind. Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Wednesday at Clearfield Tabernacle by the Rev. Scott Griffith. Burial was in Forest Lawn. Nephews Jack and Don McBrayer, Mike Chadwell, Murvel Hall, and Worrel and Virgil Baldridge served as pallbearers.
