Most of the information on the John Coons/Elizabeth Ellis family is from an article by Harry W. Mills, printed 10/86 in The Advocate, P.O. Box 406, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353 (a newspaper.) The article was taken from his book, Early Families of Montgomery County and Pioneer Kentucky, in which Mr. Mills address is given as 5227 81st Lane N. 8, St. Petersburg, FL 33709.
The marriages also appear in the IGI, batch 8320802, sheets 91-99, microfilm #1395563, submitted by Rita Souther, 7052 Bradley Circle, Annandale, VA 22003. She identifies herself as a gr-gr-gr-granddaughter of Joseph Howe and Elizabeth Coons, and also as a gr-gr-gr-granddaughter of James Edwards and Sarah Coons, through their daughter Elizabeth Edwards Hawkins. (I am not sure if this represents an error or multiple descent.) Their sources in turn are given as (1) the John Coons Bible, extracted copy printed in Miscellaneous Records, compiled by Col. George Nicholas, DAR Chapter, Mt.
