Christopher Slusher deeded 200 acres on Miry Fork of Greasy Creek to his son Peter on 20 Oct 1834.
Papers of Jacob S. Harmon included a receipt dated March 12, 1870 for the amount of $4.00 for making Peter Slusher's coffin. |

1820 census of Montgomery Co., VA, lists family: Peter Slusher, 1 m < 10, 1 m 10-16, 1 m 26-45; 2 f < 10, 1 f 26-45. The younger children are Joseph, Mary and Martha. It is unknown who the m 10-16 is, as Peter and Celia had been married not quite 8 years, and their only known son is Joseph.
1840 census of Floyd Co., VA, p. 168, lists:
Peter Slusher, 1 m 50-60, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 20-30, 1 f 40-50.
(His daughters Mary and Elizabeth were still single.)
1850 Census of Floyd Co., VA, lists as family #690:
Peter Slusher, 66; Celia, 58; Polly, 37; Mahala, 8; Peter, 6. Peter Sr. b. in MD, all others in VA.
Mahala and Peter are also listed with their parents in household #816, as aged 7 and 5.
1860 census of Floyd County, VA, Greasy Creek precinct lists on p. 158:
Peter Slusher 75, Mahala 18, Peter 16; all born in VA.
(This census was dated August 13-14, so Mahala would really have been 19.) Mahala and Peter are children of Joseph Slusher and Nancy Ann Wade. They remained in Virginia with their grandparents when Joseph and Nancy moved to Kentucky around 1855. |
