| Bath County Guardianship register, p. 166, lists W. A. Snedegar, appointed guardian of Lucy Riddle, Sam Royse security, on 28 Apr 1906. (There is no other data on the register.) I do not know the relationship of Lucy to her ward; since Zanie Riddle Snedegar died between 1900 and 1910, perhaps Lucy is an illegitimate daughter of Zanie, and thus W. A. Snedegar's step-daughter. The only problem with this hypothesis is that Zanie and William had married by 1885, and one would not expect a 21-year-old woman to have a guardian appointed for her. But I can't find any other closely related Riddle who died ca 1900-1906 who might have a young daughter. (Zanie had a sister named Lucy, but she would have been about 27 or 28 in 1906, and already married to W. H. Morefield.) |

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, lists Zany Riddle, age 20, occupation seamstress, granddaughter, living in Owingsville with Ann S. Prather, age 50.
Information about the family of William Snedegar and Zania Riddle sent to me by Sandy Savey of Fleming Co., Ky. She has Zanie's date of birth as 13 Feb 1857, based on cemetery records, but Zanie is listed as age 9 months in the 1860 census (from which I had inferred a birthdate around Sep 1859), and her parents did not marry until August 1858. I am going to assume that the Feb 13 birthday is correct but that the year is wrong, and enter her birthdate as 13 Feb 1859. |
