His surname was given on his marriage record as "Ferran", but "Ferrand" is the spelling used in censuses and in the birth records of his daughters. Also, his middle initial is given as "L." on the 1860 census, and as "J." on the birth record of his daughter Lucinda and his marriage record.

Ferrand, W. L., 29; Lucinda E., 29; Mary E., 9; Sarah J., 7; James A., 4; Lucinda E., 1. All born in Kentucky. (A Jane Ferrand age 15 was living with the Mordecai Pearce family in 1850, possibly a sister of William J. Ferrand?)
1870 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearce precinct, lists as family #18:
Ferrand, William, 40, farmer; Lucinda, 37; James, 12, Lucinda, 10; Nancy, 4; Emeline, 3/12, born March.
(Neighboring families are Lucinda's parents James & Lucinda Jones at #17, and their daughter Mary and her husband Robert Foster at #19.)
1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearce precinct, lists as family #236:
Ferrand, William, 49, farmer; Lucinda, 50, wife; James A., 25, son; Lucinda, 21, dau; Polina A., 13, dau; Martha, 11, dau. All born Ky Ky Ky.
There seems to be a lot of discrepancy between the 1870 and 1880 censuses for the two youngest daughters. Apparently Nancy is the same person as "Polina A.", and Emeline the same as Martha? |
