There is disagreement as to whether this dau of Frederick was named Virginia or Jane. Most primary records (e.g., marriage return, father's will) refer to her as Jennie or Jenny. Most family researchers seem to have chosen either Virginia or Jane as the real name this nickname was derived from. John P. Alderman uses Jane, Elza Cox uses Virginia. I am following Alderman.
Elza Cox's Genealogy of William Tobias Phillips says that Abraham was born in 1815 and Jennie in 1817. But he gives no source for those birthdates, and if they were correct, then Abraham would be 14 and Jennie 12 when they were married. I am putting their birthdates at ca 1808 based on the 1850 census reading (see Notes for Abraham Wright.) |
