| Census Notes for Aaron Largen |
1850 census of Carroll Co., Va, lists as family #182:
Aaron Largen 35, farmer; Mary 45; Ursula 13; Martin 10; William 8; Mary 6; Barton 4; John 3; Louisa 1; Caroline Quesenberry 18; Nancy M. Quesenberry 16; Lucretia Longworth 20. All born in Va.
John P. Alderman writes in his annotations to this census that the two Quesenberry girls shown here are Mary's daughters. He does not mention who their father was, nor does he identify Lucretia.
1860 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Wolf Glade P.O., p. 115, lists as family #750/755:
Largen, Aaron, 45, farmer; Rossey, 38; Barton, 13; John, 11; Isaac, 4/12; Louisa, 9. |
| Notes for Mary ("Polly") Quesenberry |
| Mary's first three children were born out of wedlock. The "Isaac Quesenberry Record" states that the father of the first, Theophilus, was a Ballard. John P. Alderman records that the father of the third, Nancy M., was assumed to be Aaron Largen, whom Mary later married (when he was 20 and she 30). He may have felt unable to marry an "older woman" until he was able to support her. |
