Scrap written by Lila Petitt Chadwell about 1975, taking notes on a conversation with her mother Emma Jane Clark Petitt, whom by then everyone called "granny", even her own children, says "Graney mothers mother Emley McClain Graney mother Hubsen James Jones" (It is apparent from the other names on the scrap, which all pair a wife and husband, listed as xxx mother xxx father, that she meant to write 'granny's mother's father James Jones') |

| Gary D. Lewis of 302 E. Second St., Morehead, Ky, 40351, wrote on 20 Sep 1993 that he had "unconfirmed info" that Emily McClain who m. James W. Jones was the d/o Charles McClain & Comfort Sexton. If so, the spacing of children is very tight, because the 1850 census lists a daughter Cumfort age 19 and a daughter Judy age 17 with the Charles McClain family, leaving little room for Emily who was listed as 18 in 1850. Another possibility is Beverly McClain & Lydia Day. (They also had a daughter age 17 in the 1850 census, but none listed older, and they married in January 1831.) I went to Morgan Co. and could not find any estate or deed records for either Charles or Beverly. Should check the 1840 census to see how many daughters under 10 each has. |

| Emily is listed in the 1900 census of Rowan Co. as a widow and boarder with the family of Henry Black, son of John A. Black & Rebecca Epperhart. (Henry is her grandson-in-law.) Her age is given as 69 and her birthdate as Feb 1831, but 1832 is more consistent with earlier censuses. |
