| Marjorie Flour Moore's transcription of Floyd County birth records13 contains an entry listed as E. Wade, female, born 10 Mar 1854, father "J", mother "M", informant father. The only "J. Wade" of the appropriate generation in Floyd County who had a wife with initial "M" was the John C. Wade who was married to Mary "Molly" Mangus. But they had a son born in Oct 1853 (listed in the same birth records), so this birth record could not be for their family. It is my opinion that the "J" should be read as an "I" (capital J and I were nearly identical in old handwriting), and that the "E" stands for "Esebell". (There are several Isabelle's in my database who are listed in some census records as "E", e.g., Isabelle Petitt daughter of Jessie and Hettie, in the 1900 census.) |
