This is a placeholder for the supposed common ancestor, not necessarily the father, of Lewis Riddle Sr. of Bath Co. and Commodore Riddle Sr. of Morgan Co., whom I suspect are closely related because Lewis has a son named Steven Commodore, and a grandson named Commodore, and it was an uncommon name even in the period.
This common ancestor is also not necessarily a son of William & Joyce Riddle of Orange Co., although it is a good bet. I suspect William Powell Riddle, since he was the one who left Orange Co., and he listed a son Lewis C. Riddle in his will. It is not as likely to be Wm P. Riddle's brother Lewis, because no children are mentioned in his 1795 estate settlement, nor their brother James, because there is no son Lewis mentioned in the 1803 will of his mother-in-law Jennett Powell, which left much of her estate to James' children. |
