Letter written by Mrs. Leo C. Hoyt, of 321 E. Minnesota St., Indianapolis, IN, on 19 June 1956, to the Kentucky Historical Society, and on file at their library, reads: "I was in the Henry Co. [Ky] court house in 1954 and found the marriage record of Simon Pettet and Elizabeth Miles, 1 Feb 1848, and Hiram Roberts and Ann Napp (or Knapp) 7 Nov 1837, and Joel Roberts and Elizabeth Pettet, 3 June 1837. These three Pettet children are children of Simon Pettet Sr. and Sarah Ann Street, Ann Napp (or Knapp) being a step-child of Simon." |

On the line above is his father Thomas Pettet.
Can't find Simon (nor his father Thomas) in 1830.
1840 census of Henry Co., Ky, lists on p. 276, line 27:
Simeon Pettitt, 1 m 10-14, 2 m 15-19, 1 m 40-49, 1 f 5-9, 1 f 10-14, 1 f 15-19, 1 f 40-49. (On p. 270 is the family of Simon's father Thomas Pettitt.)
1850 Census of Henry Co., KY, Dist. #1, dated 5 Sep, lists on p. 402, family #573:
Simon Pettit, 57, wheelwright; Sarah, 57; Miranda, 27; Nancy 7; Sarah 4; Eliza 3; Elizabeth 2. All born in Ky. The 3 adults are marked as illiterate. The family is living in the household of Joel & Elizabeth Roberts, both age 30, and their 6 young children. (From Henry Co. marriage records, Elizabeth's maiden name is Pettit.) The family of John Pettit age 25 is 3 households down on the list. It is not clear who the parents of the young children are. It may be that they are Miranda's, and she is a widow. |
