Notes for Amos Pettit
A family group sheet compiled by Margaret Cotton Spiry, 2729 Arbor Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45209, lists Amos' children (birth order unknown) as: Jacob, Jeremiah, Elijah, George, Absalom, Nancy, Sarah. Marriages are listed for all but Jacob & Jeremiah. The "places of residence" field says "to Pendleton Co. KY 1802 from Loudoun Co., VA", but we know Amos was in Pendleton Co. by 1799, and in Kentucky (Bourbon Co.) by 1793. There is a source note on this sheet referencing an article by Nickolas Coleman Pettit in a publication called "Falmouth Outlook." (No dates given.)

Other researchers, including Virginia Loomis and Steve Navaro, do not list Jacob and Jeremiah. Since Mrs. Spiry had no other data on them, neither am I. However, it is likely that Amos and Milly did have other children, since they were in their thirties when the two oldest children with data, Nancy and George, were born.
Census
Loudoun Co., Virginia tax lists show an Amos Pettit in 1782, who then disappears from Loudoun Co. records. This combined with the tradition among Amos descendents that he came from Loudoun Co. suggests the tentative identification of Amos as a son of George Pettit of Sussex Co., NJ, who was in Loudoun Co. from approximately 1769 until his death ca 1775-78.

Amos was taxable in Bourbon Co., Ky in 1793, in Campbell Co., Ky, from 1795-1798, and in Pendleton Co., Ky from 1799 until his death ca. 1846-1847.
