Orange Co., Va, Will Book 3, pp. 503-505, records the will of Benjamin Powell, dated 10 Feb 1800, which contains the following bequests:
"Imprimus I lend unto my wife Joyse Powell the tract of land whereon I now live ... containing one thousand fifty acres more or less during her widowhood & after her death I give and devise the said tract of land to my Daughter Betsy Riddell Beasley I also give unto my Daughter Betsy Riddell Beasley after my death half the tract of land I bought of my brother Frances Powell Unto my daughter Jenney Powell & the fify acres my brother Frances Powell bought from Presley Thornton likewise I give unto my Daughter Frankey Powell half the tract of land I bought from John Miller likewise fifteen acres I bought of ... <unreadable>... I give to my son William Lewis Powell after my Death one Negro named Joshua also I give my Daughter Sally Powell one Negress named Ester Also I give unto my son Benjamin James Powell two Negroes named Jude and Wellaba Each of my children William Lewis Powell & Sally Powell & Honorius Powell is to pay my son Benjamin James Powell ten pounds apiece at the delivery of these Negroes." |
