There is a picture on p. 144 of the Pictorial History of Rowan County captioned "Gordon Linville Jones Sr., 1936, on his horse Dixie that he rode from his home at Slab Camp, Kentucky, to Clearfield, Kentucky, so that he could catch the school bus and attend Morehead High School. It was a distance of 8 miles."

His obituary in the Morehead News says "Gordon Linville Jones, 61, of Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, died Tuesday March 27, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington. A native of Rowan Co., he was the son of the late Roscoe and Alberta Hardin Jones. Mr. Jones was a farmer and a former Rowan Co. School bus driver. He was a veteran of World War II and belonged to the First Baptist Church in Morehead. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Swim Jones; a son, Gordon Linville (J.J.) Jones Jr., Clearfield; a daughter, Pamela Fleck, Wabash, Ind., a stepson, Larry Swim, Clearfield; a stepdaughter, Joyce Castle, Morgantown, WV; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren." |
