| Notes for Fielding Alfrey |
The article on the Alfrey family in the 1956 Centennial Edition of the Rowan Co. News6 has this to say on the Fielding Alfrey family:
"Fielding married Martha Johnson and their children were Sam, Andrew, Frank, Allen, Julia, Ike, Mandy and Bell. Fielding's son Sam married Mary Manley, Frank married Jane Hall, Andrew married Ellen Reed, Allen married Alice Lewis, Julia married Dr. Kash, Ike married a Harmon, Mandy married Wiley Roberts, and Bell married Eli Evans." |
| Census |
1840 census of Fleming Co., Ky, lists on p. 229, line 2:
Fielding Alphrey, 2 m < 5, 1 m 5-9, 1 m 20-29, 1 f < 5, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 20-29
1850 census of Fleming Co., Ky, division 2, lists as family #24:
Fielding Alfrey, 35, farmer; Patsy, 35; Isaac, 17; Samuel, 13; Franklin, 11; Amanda Jane, 6; Anderson, 4; Lydia, 3; Allen, 7/12; Barbara, 83, born Virginia. All others born Ky.
1860 census of Rowan Co., Ky, lists on p. 36, as family #279:
Fielding Alfrey, 45; Patsy, 45; Anderson, 14; Allen, 10; July A., 8; Scott, 3; James McClelane, 82, blacksmith; Eady McClelane, 70, housewife. (I do not know the relationship of James and Eady. Also I don't know whether to interpret "McClelane" as being equivalent to "McClain" or "McClelland", both names which were common in the area, and both of which are in my ancestry.)
Anderson and Allen Alfrey were among the band of young men who shot Isaac Hall Jr. in 1868.
1870 Census of Rowan Co., Kentucky, Pearce prec., taken 20 June, lists on p. 10/127, family #74:
Alfrey, Fielding, 55, farmer; Minerva, 45, blind; Anderson, 25; Allen, 20; Martha, 9, Ellen Reed, 21, domestic servant. All born in Kentucky.
Ellen Reed later married Anderson Alfrey. Martha may be a granddaughter or niece, since there is no daughter Martha mentioned in the newspaper profile of Fielding's family. Or she could be a daughter of Minerva's from a previous marriage. (Her birth is not recorded in the 1861 birth records for Rowan Co., so she was probably born in 1860.)
1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearce prec., lists as family #186:
Fielding Alphey, 65; Manerva, 60, blind; Amanda Roberts, 35, dau., widowed; John Roberts, 10, grandson; Ada Roberts, 7, granddaughter. |
