Stone in Jennings Cem., Poplar Grove, Rowan Co., Ky, says "Joe Slusher 11 Mar 1861 - 18 May 1933". The birthdate is off by a year, as it does not fit with the census records (in particular, he appears in the 1860 census as 7 months old.)

1885 tax lists of Rowan Co. lists on p. 39:
Slusher, Joseph, no acres, 1 male over 21, no children 6-20. (People in other categories are not enumerated.)
There is a Joseph Slusher listed as living next to Riley Hall in the 1890 tax rolls of Hogtown Precinct, Rowan Co., KY. It is not likely to be Joseph Slusher Sr, because he and Nancy were living with their daughter Samantha in 1880, and Nancy was still there in 1900, widowed.
1900 census of Rowan Co., KY, Hoggstown, lists family #283:
Joseph Slusher, 3-1860, age 40, farmer, KY VA VA; Sarah, 6-1864, age 35, KY KY KY, married 5 yrs, m/o 7 children, 6 living; Pete, 5-1883, age 16; Samantha, 3-1884, age 15; John, 12-1885, age 14; Sarah E., 8-1887, age 12; David, 1-1888, age 12; Willie, 7-1889, age 10; Silvis (son), 12-1892, age 7; Sammy, 12-1896, age 3; Henry M., 2-1900, age 3/12. All children b. KY.
"Silvis" should be Silas. Although these are all listed as Slushers, Pete, John, and David are Kidds, and Silas is a Blair. |

In a letter dated 14 Nov 1995, Joanna (Slusher) Caudill, daughter of Henry M. Slusher, wrote "Sarah E. Jennings married Andy Kidd first time. To this union was born 3 sons David Kidd, John Will Kidd, and Peter Kidd. After Andy died she then married a Blair. When she became pregnant he left her. A son was born from this union. His name was Silas Blair. She then married Joseph Slusher Jr. To this union was born Sam, Henry M., Lucy, Nancy J., and Rachel Slusher."

Her gravestone is a rough stone with hand-carved lettering, which says Sarah Slusher, Born Jun 6, 1863 Died Dec 18, 1945. |
