Notes for Joseph Richard Coffey
Most information on this family, including the quote below and most personal notes on their descendants, are from a GEDCOM file created by Brian D. Lewis (a descendant of Jeanie D. Coffey and Talmadge Lewis) which I imported in 1991.

"Ran a sawmill. Joe liked his moonshine. He had a bad eye caused by a sawmill accident. Frank Fultz tells the story about his brother, Harlan Fultz and his toothache. He didn't want to go all the way to town and Joe Coffey had a pair of tooth puller pliers. Said "Uncle Joe" had a hard time pulling that tooth. Frank Fultz also told about stealing a watermelon out of Uncle Joe's patch and paying for it years later when he got saved and wanted to right the wrong he had done. Uncle Joe would come to hear him preach and would tell everyone he knew for sure that Frank Fultz had religion."
