| Census Notes for Samuel Pettit |
I have not been able to find an 1880 census entry for this Samuel. (He should be listed as 5 to 7 years old.) I'm listing him tentatively as a son of John Link and Lizzie Pettit because his great-grandson John G. Pettit of Fairborn, Ohio, wrote that his grandfather Jim Will Pettit had an uncle named Preston Pettit, who is almost certainly the Preston Pettit born Nov 1873 who was living with the John Link family in 1900. (Jim Will Pettit married Icey Lewis, daughter of Gardner Lewis & Lucretia Link.)
1900 Soundex of Kentucky lists in Morgan Co., V. 58, E.D. 76, p. 15:
Samuel Petit, 27, b. 6-72; (w) Bettie, 21, b. 3-79; (s) Chester, 10/12, b. 7-99. All b. in Ky.
1910 Soundex of Kentucky lists in Morgan Co., index #062 0153 0019:
Sam Petitt, 35; (w) Betty, 30; (s) Jim Will, 15; (s) Lilhern, 8; (d) Flossy, 6; (s) Auty, 4; (d) Carrie, 2. All b. in Ky. The index is typed, but there may have been transcription errors from the original census. Chester seems to have died. I do not know whether "Jim Will" here is the same person as their son James H. Pettit, nor why he was not listed with the family in 1900. "Lilhern" is probably a misreading of Lilburn. |
