| "Past Images of Rowan County"7 lists William H. Jones who m. Lue Ellen Foster as a son of David K. Jones, giving his lifespan as "May 14, 1878-Apr 13, 1965", based on cemetery records. This birthdate is consistent with his marriage record. But William is not listed with the David K. Jones family in the 1880 census, when he should be 2 years old, and a son John age 2 is listed. So either his birthdate is wrong in both the cemetery and marriage records, or he is really not the son of David K. Jones, or his name was changed from John to William sometime after the age of 2. (I could not find any Jones family with a son William age 1, 2, or 3 in the 1880 censuses of Rowan, Morgan, Bath, or Elliott counties.) |
