He was listed in his brother William's 1942 obituary as surviving, and as "the late Green Jones" in the Jan 1959 obituary of his son Jesse. |

Aug 1886; d Mary F., 11, b. May 1889; s Charley, 9, b. Feb 1891; d Angelia, 6, b. Oct 1893; s Jessie, 4, b. Nov 1896; s Leonard, 2, b. Dec 1897. All born in Ky. (Green's year of birth is inconsistent with Rowan County birth records, and with the 1860 census, where he appears age 6 months in June 1860. This household is next door to his brother David M. Jones.)

(Actually, Alfred is listed as a daughter in the relationship column, but that is obviously an error. He is marked as male in the gender column.)
1920 census of Rowan Co., taken Jan 21-22, lists on Clearfield Rd, family # 41:
Greenberry Jones, 50; Sallie M., 50.

I do not know who Sallie's parents were. Her maiden name of Sparks is from the obituaries of her husband and of her son Jesse. The fact that Greenberry and Sallie named their first three sons Alfred, Allen and Anderson suggests a relationship to the Alfrey family, although that might come in through Green's mother Barbary Myers (whose parents I also don't know.)
Her death date is from Green's obituary. But the Kentucky Death index lists no Sarah, Sally or Sallie Jones who died in 1941.
The only Sarah or Sally Sparks listed as age 4 through 6 in the 1870 census of Elliott or Rowan Co. is a Sarah, age 4, with the family of Daniel Sparks age 43 and Elizabeth age 37. I haven't checked surrounding counties, though. |
