Cemetery Records of Carroll County, Virginia, lists on p. 214 the inscription for Ananias Quesenberry, with full dates of birth and death.
Census
1890 census of Floyd Co., Virginia12, Indian Valley district, lists Annanias, 32; Mandia, 22; Thomas L., 4; German, 1.
Notes for Amanda E. Sutphin
Her gravestone lists "Mandy E. Quesenberry, Nov 12, 1866 - Feb 18, 1902". But Floyd County birth records13 list no female Sutphins born in 1866. In the records for 1867 there is an entry for Manda Sutphin, born 9-8, father Riley, mother Sarah. I believe this is the record of Amanda's birth. A birthdate in late 1867 is also more consistent with the 1890 census reading, where she is listed as age 22. However, the "9-8" is probably a transcriber's error, since survivors often get the deceased's age/birth year wrong, but seldom make an error of more than one day in the day/month. The birth record immediately below that for Manda Sutphin is for a Josephine Sledd, also listed as born "9-8". What I imagine happened is that either the original clerk or Marjorie Flour copied down the date for Josephine's birth twice.
