His name is listed as Isaac on the 1860 census as a child, but as Isaih on the 1880 census. On the marriage record of his son Thomas to Mamie Hall, his name is abbreviated as "Za."
According to Noreta (Collins) Wells the correct name is Isiah, which is how her great-grandmother Sarah E. (Hall) Roberts spelled it in the family bible. I've used the biblical spelling Isaiah, since that is probably what was intended. Most of the information on descendants of Isaiah and Sarah is from correspondence with Noreta. Her line is Isaiah to Mammie Florence to Edith (Ellington) to Noreta. |
