John was listed as age 11 in 1870, which would ordinarily suggest a birthdate around 1859, but he was not listed in the 1860 census at all. Also he was listed as only 18 in 1880. (See census notes for his parents.) I suspect that he was really born in fall of 1860, just after the census was taken, making him really almost 10 in 1870 and almost 20 in 1880.
Possibly the same person as the John W. Jones who married Eliza Jane Gullett on 18 Sep 1884 in Rowan County, and/or the John W. Jones who married Sarah E. Martin in Bath County. |
