This Robert is almost certainly the son of Andrew J. Pettit, since Andrew's daughter Annie married Clark Crouch, 22 May 1877 in Bath Co., but the birthdate is quite a bit different than that implied by the 1880 Soundex, where he was listed as 9, and the 1910 census, which lists him as 37. However, Andrew's family was apparently poor at keeping track of ages (e.g., Andrew's wife Mary is listed as 31 in 1870 and 38 in 1880), and the 1880 Soundex may have mistranscribed a 7 as a 9.
