| Notes for William Henry Dehart | ||||||||||||||
| Index to Kentucky Death Records lists William H. Dehart, d. 30 Dec 1968, age 94, in Rowan Co., residence same, certificate Vol. 66, #32844. (This would imply a birthdate in 1874, which is consistent with the 1880 census, but not the 1900 one.) The certificate says he died in Morehead at Daniel Boone Nursing Home. Surviving spouse--Mary Ellen Riddle. Parents--Jimmie Dehart and Rebecca Gilliam. Informant Mrs. Andy Smedley, Clearfield. Cause of death Pneumonia and Dehydration duration 1 week, Carcinoma of Prostate-8 years. Contributing factors ASHD and congestive heart failure. Buried Crix Cem. Social Security Death index lists W. Dehart, b. 27 Feb 1874, d. Dec 1968, SSN 296-20-8165 issued in Ohio, last residence in Clearfield, KY. | ||||||||||||||

| 1900 census of Rowan Co., KY, Hogstown prc. 4, lists family #149: William Deheart, 24, b. 1-76; Sarah E., 17, b. 83 (no month); no children, married within the year. (The date of birth for William is not consistent with his death record, which has 27 Feb 1874, nor with the 1880 census, which has him age 6. But the 1900 census of Rowan Co. seems to be pure fiction on a great many birthdates.3) 1910 census of Rowan Co., KY, Christy Creek prec., dated 27 April, lists on page 14B, family #260 (next door to William & Mary Hall): Dehart, William, 33; (w) Sarah E., 26; married 11 yrs, 4 children, 4 living. (d) Lueva, 8; (s) Leotis, 7; (d) Estie E., 3; (s) Oscar, 2. All born in KY. | ||||||||||||||
| Notes for Mary Elizabeth Brown | ||||||||||||||
| Either Mary's date of birth (from death and cemetery records) or her parents' date of marriage (from Gary D. Lewis) may be wrong, since together they have her born 14 months before her parents married. Unfortunately, there are no Rowan County court records for the 1870's. The 1880 census listed her as age 4, which would be consistent with a birthdate in 1876, but census ages are often only approximate. Gary Lewis's charts also give her name as Mary Ellen, but the consent note for her first marriage calls her Mary Liz. She is not buried with either husband, but instead with her parents. (Nathan Riddle is buried alone, and William Henry Dehart is buried with his first wife Sarah Ellen Clark.) | ||||||||||||||
| Notes for William Henry & Mary Elizabeth (Family) | ||||||||||||||
| Rowan Co. marriage book 21, p. 67, records the marriage on 11 Nov 1926 of W. H. Dehart, 52, widowed, b. Elliott Co., s/o Will & Catherine Dehart, to Mary E. (Lis) Riddle, 52, widowed, d/o John Brown, at bride's residence by W. F. Lambert, witnesses Frank Jones & Willie Jones. Descendants of William H. Dehart and his first wife Sarah Clark, such as his granddaughter Mae (Smedley) Lambert d/o Lue Eva, and his grandson Carl Crose s/o Estie, say that William Henry's mother's maiden name was Rebecca Gilliam, which is consistent with James William's marriage record and with the 1870 census, but is in conflict with the above marriage record, which lists his mother's name as Catherine. Also, James William was not known as "Will", but as "Jimmy". I can't find any record of a William & Catherine Dehart in Morgan or Elliott County. I don't know how to resolve this discrepancy. | ||||||||||||||
