Notes for James F. M. Roberts
Grayson Co. Virginia birth records list birth of James F. Roberts on 23 Jun 1856 to Minetry and Phamy Roberts.

Noreta Wells has his middle initial as M instead of F. I don't know her source on that. Maybe his full name was James Francis Marion Roberts? If so, he might be the Marion Roberts who married Stella Carter on 4 June 1905.
Census
In 1880 James is listed as age 23, single, born Virginia, living as a farmhand with the family of Caleb Wyatt, at Pine Grove #219, between the families of his brother Isaiah Roberts and that of Thomas P. Cornett (who was also from Grayson Co. Virginia.)

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, lists as family #176:
Roberts, James, farmer, 39, b. June 1860, married 15 years; Anna F., wife, 36, b. Apr 1864, mother of 6 children, all living; Johnnie, son, 12, b. Feb 1888; Emmet, son, 10, b. Jan 1890; Morton, son, 8, b. Mar 1892; Luther, 6, b. May 1894; Oscar, 4, b. Feb 1896; Irvin C., 2, b. July 1897. (All birthplaces are listed as Ky Ky Ky, but James and his parents were really born in Virginia. The year of birth for James is 4 years off. Most of the birth dates do not match those from gravestones.)

The Kentucky Death index lists Damia Roverts, age 85, died 8 Feb 1951 in Rowan Co., certificate Vol. 8, #3764.
