Notes for Wesley Cornett
According to an oral history given by Ora Mae Cornett30, daughter-in-law of John M. Cornett, Ceatti was raised at Hazard, Kentucky and first met Wesley at age 16. One day, Wesley passed by the Morris home and stopped to ask for lodging for the night. That same night he asked permission to marry Ceatti. Mr. Morris told him to come back in one year, and he could have her if they both still felt the same way. So, at the age of 17 Ceatti Morris wed Wesley Cornett.
Wesley was drafted into the Union Army in 1864 and died three weeks later. He contracted measles and, though in a weakened condition, he kept on marching in the rain - a decision which was to prove fatal, as it led to his contracting pneumonia.
Ceatti later lived with Liz and John; she even traveled with them when they went to Kansas for a try out west. |

Notes for Ceattie S. Morris
After she distributed her Rowan County land, she moved with her son John to Kansas. They returned later to Boyd Co., Kentucky, where she died. Her name is misindexed as "Cathy": Kentucky Death Index lists Cathy Cornette, died 7 Apr 1912 in Boyd Co., age 76, certificate Vol. 23, #09190. Evelyn Smith sent for the above death certificate, and reports that it lists her date of birth as 11-4-1835 in Floyd Co., Ky, father John Morris born Virginia, mother Sallie Prater, place of birth unknown, informant John Cornette, son.
Notes for Wesley & Ceattie S. (Family)
An index to Floyd Co., Ky marriage consent notes31 lists consent dated July 25, 1851 for the marriage of Wesley Cornett and Ceatty "Manns", obviously a misreading of Morris. The index does not say who signed the consent note.
