| Notes for Thomas R. "Cloyd" or "Floyd" Quesenberry |
Dates of birth and death for Cloyd and Rachel are from their gravestones, which are inscribed Cloyd Quesenberry and Rachel C. Quesenberry. The 1890 census also lists them as Cloyd and Rachel.
However, several records for their children (e.g., Lydia's birth, Virginia's marriage) list their names as "Floyd and Rachel Quesenberry". Since most vital statistics records are filled out by clerks, it could be simply that the clerk misheard "Cloyd" as the more common name "Floyd." But it is also possible that he went by both names.
I would like to get some more records (e.g., their marriage record, 1880 and 1900 census records for this family, 1860 and 1870 census readings for his parents James and Euphemia, etc.) to see which name was used most often.
I can't find any record of where I got the "Thomas R." from. Possibly something in the Cox/Phillips Newsletter. |
