| Some researchers have his name as "Thomas Norrus Cassity". This is because the birth record of his daughter Martha Ellen lists her parents as "Norrus Cassity & Eliza Brown." Those birth records, however, were compiled at the end of the year by the county clerk copying from multiple lists submitted by doctors, midwives, etc. They tend to have many mispellings due to the clerk being unable to read the reports submitted to the county. Since no other record shows a name of Norrus either for Thomas or any other relative, nor even a middle initial N, it is most likely that "Thomas" was simply misread as "Norrus". |

| The 1900 census gives her date of birth as May 1836, but she was listed as age 16 on the 1850 census. If she was really born in May 1836, she would have been barely 13 when she married in June 1839, so she was probably really born about 1834. |
