Moved to Illinois about 1851. Stephen purchased land in Effingham Co., Illinois in 1853. He paid taxes on 240 acres in both 1854 and 1855. In the 1860 Hendricks Co. census, he appears with son A. G. and daughter (Martha) Elizabeth, son-in-law Lud Handley, grandchildren Frank A, and
Mary. In 1861 he sold land to daughter Martha E. and in 1864 sold land to then son-in-law Ure Stroud. He does not appear on any census for 1870. |
