It is unlikely that a January death is going to get recorded in the books for the following year (that usually only happens for December deaths), so it is more likely that the "1920" is equivalent to writing last year's date on a check before you get used to the new year. The cemetery records confirm this interpretation, since his gravestone says William H. Bowman, 30 Apr 1850 - 8 Jan 1921. |
