| Notes for Malissa Clark |
Stone in the New Sill Cemetery reads "Malissie Pettit died August 1937". (The same cemetery that has the graves of her sons Frank & Roscoe.)
I could not find a death record for either Malissa Carter or Malissa Pettit (or spelling variants.) Perhaps she married a third time? Or maybe she died in West Virginia or another state and was brought back to Rowan County for burial. |
| Census |
1900 census of Rowan Co. lists with Samuel Clark (Malissa's father), family # 139:
Malisee Petit, 32, b. 2-68, married 14 yrs, m/o 4 children, all living; Roscoe, son, 12, b. 5-88; Linna, dau, 10, b. 6-90; Jipsey, dau, 9, b. 2-91; Frank, son, 8, b. 3-92. All born in Ky, Malissa's father b. in VA.
The year of birth for both Roscoe and Frank is one year later than the birthyear in their death records. Since I don't know which is correct, I have entered their year of birth as a range, and done the same to their sisters, since if Frank was born in 1891, then his sisters would have to be born a year earlier than given in this census too. |
| Notes for George Asbury & Malissa (Family) |
| Rowan Co. marriage book 6, p. 473, records the marriage on 8 Nov 1908 of George A. Carter, 62, b. Scott Co., Ky, s/o Geo. & Cynthia Carter (b. "east Va."), to Malissa Clark, 41, d/o Sam (b. Morgan Co.) & Lizzie Clark, at bride's home, by S. J. Porter, witnesses J. W. Fouch, Lucy Fouch. It is listed as the third marriage for him, the second for her. |
