1870 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Newcombe Fork precinct, lists as family #67:
Isaac Caudle, 21, farmer; Leander, 22, farm hand. Both born in Ky.
Immediate neighbors are Rufus Steagall age 22 and F. M. Crisp age 28. Nearby are the households of Electious T. Caudill (#61), Electious's son Elijah age 24 (at #62), and Electious' sister Mary married to B. J. Cox with their mother Sarah age 85 at household #64.
1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, records as family #424:
Isaac D. Caudill, 31, farmer, Ky Ga Ga; Margaret, 22, wife; Stegall, 18, (male), servant; William, 10, brother; Rosa J., 7, sister. All except Isaac have the birthplaces listed as Ky Ky Ky.
Something is wrong here. For one thing, "Stegall" sounds like a surname, not a given name, and there were several Steagall families living near Isaac in 1870, which include two William Steagalls both age 8 (one the son of Jesse, the other the son of Gabriel.) For another thing, if William and Rosa Caudill are Isaac's siblings, then their parents should have the same birthplace as him, and they don't. All in all, it looks like some data is missing here.
1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown prec., E.D. 156, page 7B, records as family #115:
Caudill, Isaac, 61, farmer; Margaret, 53; married 38 years, 14 children, 6 living; John H., 17; Liza J., 13; James S., 10. All born in Kentucky. (Wow, they sure had a lot of children die young. The number of years married is probably incorrect, because Margaret would have been only 14 in 1872, and I have no record of any children born before 1882.) |
