| Notes for Samuel Cornett |
| Many Cornett researchers such as Rita Maggard,
Wendell Combs,
and Ross Vinson
show his name as "John Samuel Cornett",
but I do not know on what basis. All primary records that I am aware of (marriage, deeds,
tax lists, court orders, etc.) refer to him only as Samuel. Perhaps John Samuel was a christening
name, but if so, I have not seen that. |
| Notes for Mary Benham |
| An email sent to the VARUSSEL-L@rootsweb mailing list on 13 Jan 2002 by
<dotty1@bellsouth.net> titled "Re: [VARUSSEL] Cornett Family", and forwarded to me on 13 July 2002
by Carter L. Combs <lcombs@accessky.net> contains the passage: "Md Mary Benham,
18 May 1791 in Washington Co, Va by Rev John Frost, Washington Co Va Marriage Records in Abington, Va.
Mary Benham was the daughter of John Benham and Mary Hobbs. John Benham of Benham's Fort
died in Washington Co, Va in 1800. His will in Washington Co dated 12 March, 1800 was proven
at a court 19th day of August, 1800. Mary is named in his will." |
| Notes for Samuel & Mary Family |
| Most likely there were other children besides Jesse in this family, but
since I have no Cornett ancestry I am only interested in the ones whose descendants settled
in Rowan Co., Kentucky. For further information contact one of the Cornett researchers
mentioned above. |
