| Notes for John Desha Nickell |
John D. Nickell was killed by his first cousin once removed, John Jackson Nickell,
son of Fowler Nickell, while his wife Priscilla begged for his life.
My great-great-grandfather Preston Pettit was one of the witnesses
at John Jackson Nickell's murder trial.
W. Lynn Nickell of West Liberty, Ky wrote a book about it in 1997,
entitled "Hanging Justice: The Military Trial of John Jackson Nickell", which includes the full text of the proceedings
as recorded by the trial clerk, including Priscilla's testimony. It can be ordered from the author for $25 at http://ewdesigns.com/nickell/.
He and Priscilla had 7 children. See Don Nickell's web site17 for more details. |
