The Rowan County News of May 5, 1955 reported "Funeral services for Charles Gregory, 22, were conducted at 10 o'clock Sunday morning at Sharkey Baptist Church with burial in Caudill Cemetery at Sharkey.
Mr. Gregory died Thursday. He was born May 3, 1932 in Rowan County, son of J. M. and Mary (Caudill) Gregory, who survive. He also leaves his wife, the former Erma Stidam, and one child, Kathy Ann. Other immediate survivors are 11 brothers and sisters: Lloyd Gregory, Mrs. Olive Mae Harris and Mrs. Lena Faye Eldridge, Morehead; Darsie Gregory, Hillsboro; Mrs. Elsa Marie Black, Newcastle, Ind.; Mrs. Margie Gee Braham, Hillsboro; Mrs. Mary Delphia Cox, Dayton, Oh., Mrs. Beatrix Cot, Plummers Landing; and Lonnie, Willie Berl and Larry, all at home.
Funeral services were conducted by Reverends Eddie Hall, Wardie Craft and Billie Beare. Lane Funeral Home handled arrangements."
His stone in Caudill Cemetery is next to that of his parents, and says "James Charles Gregory, May 13, 1932 - April 28, 1955." Note that the date of birth is 10 days later than that reported in his obituary. |
