John G. Pettit's email says that Jim Roberts married twice, to sisters Margaret Blair and Effie Blair. At one time, when I only had the names from Rowan Co. marriage book 5, I had the 1905 marriage of James M. Roberts to Effie Stacy entered to this James, under the assumption that the bride was Effie Blair, and she had been previously married to a Mr. Stacy. But since getting the details, I found that it was recorded as a first marriage for both spouses, and James was 24 and Effie only 13 at the time. That makes it almost certain that Stacy was her maiden name, and furthermore the age for James is ten years younger than this James, and matches perfectly with James the son of Troy Roberts, who was born in Jan 1881 according to the 1900 census. So I've moved that marriage to the other James Roberts.
The marriage records for this James to the two Blair sisters will probably be found in Morgan County. Most of the Blairs are from there. |
