The Kentucky birth index lists Gordon L. Jones, born 11 Jan 1923 in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Alberta Hardin.
There is a picture on p. 144 of the Pictorial History of Rowan County captioned “Gordon Linville Jones Sr., 1936, on his horse Dixie that he rode from his home at Slab Camp, Kentucky, to Clearfield, Kentucky, so that he could catch the school bus and attend Morehead High School. It was a distance of 8 miles.”
Social Security Death Index lists Gordon Jones, b. 11 Jan 1923, d. Mar 1984, SSN 403-20-9271 issued in Kentucky, last residence Clearfield, KY.
His obituary in the Morehead News says “Gordon Linville Jones, 61, of Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, died Tuesday March 27, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington. A native of Rowan Co., he was the son of the late Roscoe and Alberta Hardin Jones. Mr. Jones was a farmer and a former Rowan Co. School bus driver. He was a veteran of World War II and belonged to the First Baptist Church in Morehead. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Swim Jones; a son, Gordon Linville (J.J.) Jones Jr., Clearfield; a daughter, Pamela Fleck, Wabash, Ind., a stepson, Larry Swim, Clearfield; a stepdaughter, Joyce Castle, Morgantown, WV; two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.”

Martha was for many years the main organizer of the annual Petitt-McBrayer Reunion in Wabash.
Her syndicated obituary reported:
“Martha L. "Marti" Meyer, 80, of Wabash, IN, left her physical body on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 9:07 a.m. at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born November 30, 1928 in Morehead, Kentucky to Joseph P. and Viola (Petitt) McBrayer. Marti married Russell Lee "Bud" Meyer, Jr. in Wabash on June 26, 1954. She moved to Wabash in 1947 and worked for General Tire. She graduated from beauty college in 1960 and operated Marti's Beauty Shop until her retirement in 1996. Marti was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, where she served on the church council, staff parish, and worship committee. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, playing cards, and mushroom hunting. She loved visiting nursing homes and shut-ins. She is survived by Husband, Russell Lee "Bud" Meyer, Jr,; 2 Grandchildren, Heather J. Flack and James (Amy) Flack, 2 Great-Grandchildren, Ethan Waymire and Kinzie Flack; and Son-in-Law, Jim Flack all of Wabash, IN; 4 Sisters, Christine (Earl) Kizer of Morehead, KY, Pearl M. (J.T.) Green of Richmond, IN, Lillie Mae Catron of Olive Hill, KY, Ruth Ann (Clester) Anderson of Anderson, IN; Brother, Donald J. (Vicki) McBrayer of Morehead, KY; Also surviving are Marti's dear friends Beverly Grey and Joyce Petitt Haney and many other close friends in her church family as well as her community & past business associates. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Flack, who died Sept 2007 and 1 brother, Edward McBrayer. Funeral services will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church, 477 N. Wabash Street, Wabash, on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Phil Lake officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-6 p.m., Sunday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Preferred memorial is Christ United Methodist Church or Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice”
