My great aunts Oly and Lila said that Johnnie's sons by Tye were Jason, Willie and Asa, but Fay Beck of Bluefield, Virginia says that Johnnie's son William Anderson Pettit (who was her father-in law) was called Bill.

His Social Security record is under the name of Willie, though, so at least when he got his Social Security number he was using Willie as his official name. Presumably he switched his preference of nicknames sometime later in life.

His marriage license, issued in Buchanan County, Virginia, records marriage of William Pettit, 21, occupation lumberman, born Rowan Co., Ky, son of John and Tie Pettit, to Mollie M. Stacy, 19, born Buchanan Co., Va, daughter of A. C. and Martha Stacy, on 7 Nov 1919, at A. C. Stacy's in Blacky, Virginia. Marriage performed by George W. Stacy of the Buchanan Baptist Church.

The Social Security death record lists Willie Pettit, born 25 Sep 1899, died Sep 1981, SSN 232-01-1763 issued in "WC", last residence zip 24801,
which covers the town of Welch, in McDowell Co., WV. ("WC", given as place of issue, may be a typo for WV, since the C and the V are adjacent on the keyboard. Or it may be some special code.)

1920 census of Buchanan Co., VA, Rock Lick district, enumerated 5 Jan, lists on p. 5A as household #80:
Pettit, Willie, 21, saw mill, b. Ky Ky Ky; wife Mollie, 20, b. Va Va Va; Aldrich, Lina J., servant, 60, b. WV.
