Census Notes for Mary “Polly” Hylton
1860 census of Carroll Co., Va, Hillsville P.O., lists this family twice. On p. 37, they appear as family #242/243:
Polly Goad, 2 (?? This is the way it appears on the Carroll Co. VAGenWeb site. I don’t know whether it is that way on the actual census or if this is a transcription error), day laborer; Hannah, 19, day laborer; Spencer, 17, day laborer; Leanna, 11.
And on p. 72, they appear as family #459/463:
Polly Goad, 53, farming; Hannah, 18; Spencer, 16; Leana, 9.
In 1870 Mary age 64 and Leannah age 19 are listed as housekeepers with the family of Abraham Nester age 70 and his wife Rachel age 69.
In 1880 Mary is listed as age 74 with her daughter Leanna and son-in-law John Horton.
